As well as being a shopper’s paradise, Wastebusters also has a fantastic website filled with tons of resources on how to reduce waste in your household. From food rescue to slow fashion, you’ll find everything you need to get started.
Repair Revolution
If you’ve got a beloved item that’s broken, learn how to fix it at the Repair Revolution. This regular Upper Clutha event shows you how to renew, revive, and repair damaged items. So instead of sending it to our landfill, bring it along to the team of volunteer fixers. From furniture to appliances, this team of superheroes can fix anything!
Check out the Wastebusters events page here for more info.
Recycling
Stay on top of Wānaka’s recycling rules with this handy guide from QLDC. Download or print it off and stick it on your fridge.
For a more detailed breakdown of what can be recycled, visit the Wānaka Wastebusters website here.
Food Waste
Find useful tips and recipes to reduce food waste in your home at Love Food Hate Waste. Alternatively, if you don’t compost, the Sharewaste NZ app is a great way to connect with other people in the community and pass on your food scraps.
WAO is a non profit organisation based in Wānaka. It delivers exciting events and educational programs that inspire, educate and enable communities to move towards a regenerative future.
As you can see, there’s a lot of information out there and yes it can feel overwhelming. But, just like reducing waste, when you’re trying to look for solutions and alternatives, it’s best to take it one step at a time. Choose one item that you’re going to swap out and focus on implementing that into your daily routine. Once you’ve done that, you’ll find that it becomes far easier to adopt low waste solutions.
Remember, this isn’t something that happens overnight. So relax, don’t put pressure on yourself, and, most importantly, have FUN!
